Clio the Corgi // New Crochet Pattern!

Can you believe January is already over? Happy February! That means it’s Lunar New Year time, February 16th, to be exact. It is also the Year of the Dog for 2018. Hence, Clio was born! I love Corgis and since it’s Year of the Dog, of course I had to make him the Chinese New Year (CNY) crochet dog!

Clio is worked from his feet up. You will crochet the little parts such as the tail, forelegs and ears first, then move on to the legs, body and head. The little parts are then attached to the body as you go. That way, you aren’t sewing a bunch of parts at the end. The legs, body and head are worked in one-piece! Less sewing is always better, isn’t it?

Good Fortune Clementine Tree
~ free crochet pattern ~

It’s been a busy month and I haven’t been able to work on my crochet projects as much as I wanted to. That said, I did manage to finish up my Good Fortune Clementine Tree on time for Chinese New Year (CNY), which is on February 19, 2015. As I’ve said on my last post, clementines are symbols of abundance and good fortune in the traditional Chinese culture. The bright orange color of the clementine (or mandarin oranges) also symbolizes ‘gold’, hence the belief that the fruit will bring in wealth and good fortune. And so I thought it would be a great idea to crochet one! Or…it’s just my excuse to not go out and buy one in this freezing weather, especially with the crazy snowstorms we’ve been having!

Chinese New Year Clementine
~ free crochet pattern ~

Chinese New Year (CNY) is only a couple of weeks away and I can’t wait to celebrate it with my family! Much like Christmas or Thanksgiving, there’s always lots of yummy food during this holiday. But of course, the best part is the little red packets, which contains lucky money 🙂  And so, since I’ve already worked on a few projects for Valentine’s Day, how could I forget about CNY?

When I was young, my parents would always buy a few clementines (or mandarin oranges…or tangerines…? they’re pretty much the same thing, right? OK, let’s move on!) and display it on the dinner table as decoration. The clementines are traditional symbols of abundance and good fortune.
