Lucky, the Chihuahua Dog Amigurumi
~ free crochet pattern ~

‘Lucky’, the Chihuahua dog amigurumi was created for my friend. Her dog, Lucky, passed away in 2012. I know that Lucky will stay forever in her heart and now, forever with her in amigurumi form.

You can see a photo of Lucky on the left circle below 🙂

Please note the pattern is written specifically for Lucky and therefore, the design on the head resembles very closely to Lucky. You will need to modify some stitches to accommodate other Chihuahuas 🙂

I did not use a graph chart for this pattern. Rather, I freehanded this and had just written down what I did and am sharing with you all. If you notice any mistake(s) in the pattern, please feel free to message me and I will revise the pattern PDF as needed, thank you!

May 14, 2015

Last year, around Christmas time, I designed a dog amigurumi crochet pattern resembling my friend’s Chihuahua, named Lucky. Since then, there has been nearly 6,000 unique downloads of this free chihuahua crochet pattern. I’ve received lots of kind comments, feedback and most recently, a question from a fellow crocheter regarding an error in the pattern (thanks, Margie!). I know some of you have asked whether there is a video tutorial for this pattern – I do not have one available but maybe someday…? Anyhow, I have tested the error, revised a few rounds in the pattern, added instructions here and there and updated some photos.

Here are a few links which I think should be helpful for the beginner crocheter who has not done color changes, stranding or crocheting with two colors. Also included is the tutorial to do the foundation single crochet for the optional scarf on the Chihuahua.

1. Changing colors in the round:

2. Tip for working long color changes in crochet:

3. How to crochet with 2 colors by stranding:

4. How to strand yarn in color changes: a video tutorial:

5. Foundation Single Crochet (fsc) tutorial:

I hope the above links are helpful! If you do not like the method of stranding, you can also try to just ‘crochet over’ the white yarn. This method, however, is not as desirable as it may cause the unused yarn to be visible through your work. If you do it this way, you may see some white spots peeking through the tan yarn.

As a reminder, I did not use a graph chart for this pattern. Rather, it is done freehand so the little design on Lucky’s head may not be perfectly symmetrical.

Enjoy! ♥
