Ravelry Social Media Icon Set

*I made the following Ravelry icon set to use on my old blog, littlemeecreations.com. Although I no longer use these, I just wanted to make this post available in case anyone finds them useful.*

>>>Original post:

I decided to take a break from crocheting today to work on the layout of my blog. Being in this tech-heavy world, we all know about the importance of social media. That’s not to say that I’m a super fan of technology and social media. I like reading hardcover books. I like crocheting. I don’t need to stick to my phone 24/7.  I’d love to use a rotary phone even if it takes 10 minutes to dial a phone number. That said, technology and social media can be very beneficial if managed right. It has certainly been beneficial to me in discovering crochet patterns, inspirations and ideas via pins, blogs, Instagram, Ravelry, etc. And that is why I think adding social media icons on my blog would be helpful.

Googling ‘social media icons’ gave me tons of results with many interesting designs. However, I especially like Vervex‘s icons because of its simplicity. I love how they look on my blog (thank you, Vervex!). Vervex’s Somicro icons didn’t include Ravelry, so I decided to make my own so the icons can match 🙂

Ravelry Icons
Please feel free to use the icons on your blog (a direct link back to this post is appreciated!).

DOWNLOAD the Ravelry social media icon set HERE (the .zip file includes all the Ravelry icons you see on the banner above).

Of course, if you don’t like the icons or it doesn’t match the theme of your blog, you can use an official Ravelry logo or other unofficial ones posted by other designers.

How to add icon to your WordPress.com blog

>> Using the Text Widget
1. First, download your choice of icon.
2. Upload the icon to your blog’s Media Library (or wherever you keep your photos and images).
3. Copy the URL to your icon.
4. Go to WordPress > Appearance > Customize (or wherever your customization option is located)
5. If you are adding it as a widget, then go to Widgets > Footer Sidebar (your theme may have a different name) > Add a Widget > Text.
6. Put a Title, or leave it blank.
7. In the text box, put in the following HTML:

<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/people/YOUR RAVELRY USERNAME"><img src="URL of your icon.png"></a>

To have the link open in a new tab or window, use the following HTML:

<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/people/YOUR RAVELRY USERNAME" target="_blank"><img src="URL of your icon.png"></a>

8. Save your changes.

>> Using the Image Widget.

1. Make note of your image URL.
2. Add the Image Widget and you will see the field “Image URL” in the settings, put your image URL here.
3. In the field “Link URL”, put your Ravelry page URL and click Save.

I hope this is clear. If you need help or have any questions, please feel free to email me.
